One of four official languages of Nigeria

· Spoken by about 20 million people in Nigeria
· G. C. A. Oldendor the first person to write book written in Igbo
· First book written in Igbo was written in 1777
· Many names in Igbo are actually combined from older original words and phrases.
· Igbo is a language having a lot to do with tone
· There are three distinctive tones; high ,low, and downstepped high tone.
· The most commonly-used Igbo language is currently the Onwu (/oŋwu/) Alphabe

· Idioms and proverbs play an important role in the Igbo language
· A word can have numerous meanings
· Someone who does not use them considered a novice at speaking the language.
